EShowe cops arrest serial robber suspect
ESHOWE police arrested a 37-year-old suspect for armed robbery and being in possession of counterfeit bank notes on Wednesday last week.
Police were conducting a routine patrol in the eShowe CBD when they were approached by a man who identified himself as a robbery victim.
King Cetshwayo Cluster Police spokesperson, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose, said the victim asked police to accompany him to the bank ATM where he pointed out a suspect who robbed him of his money last year.
‘The victim identified the suspect as the one who robbed him of his money and his bank card in August last year.
‘It is alleged that the victim was approached by the suspect when he left a bank.
‘The suspect pointed to a large amount of money on the ground and told the victim to go with him to the bush near Norwood Park to divide the money among themselves,’ said Mdlalose.
‘While the two were in the bush, a second suspect appeared and robbed the victim of his cash and bank card. Soon after, the victim’s money in the bank was also withdrawn.’
Mdlalose said during the arrest police discovered a large amount of counterfeit money and bank cards in the suspect’s hired vehicle.
‘He was positively linked to a number of armed robbery cases reported in eShowe, eSikhaleni, Empangeni, Gingindlovu and Richards Bay’.
