Foundations collaborate to give relief aid
OPEN Arms Foundation, assisted by the Robinhood Foundation, Round Table 61 Empangeni and Siyabonga Africa, lent a helping hand to destitute flood-affected victims through generous donations and support.
The foundation's vision is to share passion, knowledge and education through the promotion of social cohesion and cultural diversity among communities to ensure all people can be developed individually, socially and economically.
Over 250 food vouchers, 300 food parcels, and bottled water were among the items gifted through the collaboration of these organisations.
Communities in Madlankala, Macekane and Mhlanga under the City of uMhlathuze were among those that benefitted from the generosity, and made to feel they are never alone during these trying times.
Speaking as an eye witness on the ground, Open Arms Foundation technical advisor Natalie Jubber said, ‘This has affected many people, and they are still in shock over their sudden loss.'
‘We are lucky that not so many lives were lost in this district,’ she said.
Even so, she said a subsequent loss of income and personal belongings was still a big brunt to bear for so many people.
Jubber appealed to companies and the general public to heed the patriotic call to donate necessities such as food parcels, bottled water and blankets to the needy.
Open Arms Foundation is an NPO spearheaded by highly experienced and skilled development practitioners under the leadership of its founder, Phumlani Banda, a social engagement facilitator and mentor.
