Ioniq 6 among finalists for awards

-

HYUNDAI Motor Company’s Ioniq 6 is among the top three finalists across three categories in the 2023 World Car Awards.

The Ioniq 6 is nominated in the 2023 World Car of the Year, 2023 World Electric Vehicle, and 2023 World Car Design of the Year categories.

It is based on the same Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) as the 2022 World Car of the Year, the Ioniq 5, and has attracted a hugely positive response since it was unveiled in 2022.

During the past few months, the Ioniq 6 has won numerous prestigious awards.

It was named Saloon of the Year at the 2023 GQ Car Awards and New Car of the Year, in a competition hosted by Le Guide de L’auto, and it achieved a five-star safety rating and Best in Class selection in the Large Family Car category in the European New Car Assessment Programme (EuroNCAP).

The World Car Awards is an annual event that involves 100 international jurors from 32 countries as they test-drive and vote on a field of eligible vehicles.

The winners will be announced live at an awards ceremony during the 2023 New York International Auto Show on 5 April 2023.

This is the 18th year of the World Car Awards’ partnership with the New York International Auto Show.

Last month, at the 2023 GQ Car Awards, presented in association with Michelin, the new, all-electric Ioniq 6 emerged as the number one choice in the hotly contested Saloon of the Year category, with the judges particularly impressed by the model’s unique Streamliner design. The annual GQ Car Awards seek to identify the world’s finest vehicles, and this year the changing landscape of the car industry was reflected as British GQ decided that all the winners should feature some form of electrification.

Judges said their aim was to recognise models that are 'inspiring, have integrity and get pulses racing'.

British GQ said:

“From hotter-than-the-sun hatches and sensational SUVs to elegant EVs and killer concepts, everyone knows Hyundai's ambitious design team is having a moment, and the Ioniq 6 continues the brand’s remarkable run.

“Their latest offering is a four-door ‘Streamliner’ saloon, inspired by the late Art Deco exploration into functional efficiency that showcases the South Koreans’ sleek statement styling, offering distinctive and daring architecture with a futuristic, high-tech, pure-electric twist.”
