Bubblies

Fairlady - - CONTENTS - BY SUZY BROKENSHA

10 fab fizzes to add sparkle to any party – and a few great options for Dry January.

My friend Josie once taught me about the ‘dresser’, which is a little drink you have while you’re dressing to go out. I embraced the concept with great enthusiasm and it’s stood me in excellent stead ever since – specially if it’s a glass of fizz. There’s nothing quite like a bit of a bubble to get a girl ready for the ball (you’ll probably find that easier to say now than you will at the end of the evening). These are 10 sparklers that might make you linger over the getting-ready part…

Genevieve Blanc de Blanc Zero Dosage 2012, R200

The ‘Dosage’ is a teeny bit of sweet wine that’s added to the bubbly – after all the natural sugar has been converted to alcohol and just before the cork is put in – to balance out the acidity. ‘Zero Dosage’ means this step has been left out, which makes this lovely bubbly very dry and crisp. It’s delicious.

Graham Beck Brut Zero 2012, R370

‘Brut Zero’ is the same as Zero Dosage, and this bubbly is fresh, minerally, bone dry (and has less sugar than most, obviously). Winning!
