TRUDEAU MAISON ABOUT R175; HIRSCH’S, MAKRO This classic rotaryshaped opener was among the fastest of those tested. It clamps onto the can with ease and cuts smoothly through any sized container. The large soft-grip arms are comfortable when squeezing together, and the opener’s bulkiness reduces pressure on the hand so less effor ti s required. But the lid is tricky to lift after cutting because, like all traditional rotary openers, this model leaves a sharp edge.
Verdict: While it isn’t the most compact opener, it is effective, comfortable to use and affordable.

LEGEND
ABOUT R145; MAKRO, TAKEALOT
This utensil performed well on cans of various sizes. The opener is fairly big because it has a bottle opener on the end, which is useful. Overall, performance was relatively good: the cutting wheel locked onto the can easily and kept its hold. The knob turned easily and the cutting mechanism operated smoothly. Also, the oversized handles have rubberised inserts, which allow for good grip.
Verdict: A chunky, sturdy opener that isn’t too heavy though it will take up some drawer space. A great budgetfriendly buy. ✤
