TIPS FOR ASPIRING WRITERS
Step one, says Dani, is to actually write the book. (‘Ass in chair,’ as Nora says.) People often ask Jo for advice on publishing long before they’ve written a word. ‘Just do it,’ she says. ‘The only difference between me and every aspiring writer out there is that I just did it.’
Jo recommends putting your work on Wattpad to get feedback. ‘There’s a stigma about Wattpad because it used to be viewed as a fan fiction site, but it hasn’t been that for years. Wattpad books are being made into Netflix shows and movies, and they’ve started their own publishing arm. I can’t sing their praises enough.’
If you’re planning to self-publish on Amazon, Dani recommends spending money on a good editor. ‘A lot of new writers think they can just self-edit their book – you can’t. If you’re going to spend money, spend it on that.’
