Don’t give up, whatever you do. Blog about it, moan and wave, dramatically announce that it’s not worth it – but then carry on anyway. Simple advice is usually the most bitter to swallow, and rough patches are a challenge to the best of us; but you have the strength of elephants – and a will to match. Piece of cake.

Easy does it. The tangles and knots will unravel in time. Often, the worst bit about bumps in any relationship – work, family, pleasure – is the thought that the relationship could end, or become boring. Happily for you, good sense is a natural mindset, so don’t write off what may simply need a bit of a breather.
