LOVE LIFE

-

If you aren’t a fan of the Scrappy Little Nobody that is Anna Kendrick, you might want to give this one a miss. And no, I’m not being rude about her; that’s literally the title of her memoir. (If I was going to mock her, I might bring up the fact that she wrote a memoir at 31.)

HBO Max recently announced their three most popular shows since launch. Unsurprisingly, Friends came in first, fan fave The Big Bang Theory came third, and out of the clear blue nowhere, Love Life came in second. Which I had never heard about. Turns out it’s a new ‘romcom anthology series’ that follows Darby as she navigates her messy love life. And yes, take heed: that includes some fairly cringeworthy sex scenes. But for the most part the show is sweet, funny and surprisingly poignant, despite the thoroughly annoying British narrator. Thankfully, she doesn’t talk all that much.

If I haven’t sold you on it yet, how’s this: it’s executive-produced by Paul Feig, who did Bridesmaids, and it has an 81% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Well worth a binge. Now on Showmax. – Liesl

RUN

This Showmax series has me hooked! Seventeen years ago, Ruby and Billy were college sweethearts but decided to go their separate ways. Before they parted, they made a pact: if one texted the other ‘RUN’ and the other replied ‘RUN’, they would both drop everything and meet at Grand Central Station in New York to take a cross-country train trip to California for one week. At the end of their journey they would decide if they were going to stay together or leave each other once and for all. But 17 years can change everything: your body, your career, your dreams… add to that a spouse and a few kids, and it all becomes a lot more complicated. When Ruby and Billy meet up, they have no idea what has happened in those 17 years, but their chemistry is the one thing that hasn’t changed.

Running from their lives is one thing, but when their impulsive trip is interrupted by reality, Ruby and Billy find themselves running from the law too.

Run will have you imagining what could have been if you’d made a different decision years ago. While I have no intention of running away from my fiancé, I did make a ‘RUN’ pact with my best girlfriend in case we want to get away from our busy lives for a week. Don’t worry my love; if I go, I’ll leave a note! – Caroline
