HOW TO HAVE GREAT HAIR EVERY DAY

2021 How to have great hair every day

When our hair is looking good, we feel great – that’s why a ‘bad hair day’ is basically a synonym for the kind of day when everything goes wrong. The sad truth is, not all hair is born equal. Some people are just lucky; the rest of us, maybe not so much. Annoying but true. Fortunately there are some excellent products and sneaky tricks that really do make a huge difference, no matter how headstrong your hair is.

Here’s how to make the most of your mane.

• Use a treatment or mask once a week.

• Try not to use heat-activated hair tools (if you do, make sure you use a good heat protector first).

• Avoid chlorinated or sea water.

• Keep your hair covered when you’re out in the sun.

• Watch your diet!

BOTTOM LINE: ‘Be gentle with it,’ says Danielle van Heerden, hairstylist at Hair Today in Johannesburg. ‘Dry hair is in need of a bit of mollycoddling.’

Try

• Dr. Hauschka Shampoo, R495

• Marc Anthony Hydra Lock Moisture Recharge Shampoo, R159

• Renpure Coconut + Vitamin E Hydrate and Replenish Shampoo, R149.95

• Inoar Résistance Bamboo Duo Kit, R590

• Hask Argan Oil Repairing Shampoo, R125

Consider washing it less often, Danielle says. ‘Washing too frequently can cause your scalp to produce more sebum, which is what makes hair oily.’

• Use dry shampoo to soak up the oil, then brush it out.

• Keep it short: length will weigh it down even more.

Try

• Dove Nutritive Solutions Daily Moisture Shampoo, R45.99

• Vichy Dercos Oily Hair Treatment Shampoo, R195
