LOURENSFORD THE DOME PINOT NOIR 2020, R175, is a darker Pinot Noir with candy floss on the nose, and cherries, plum and dark stone fruit coming through on the palate. Delicious!
RANDFORD DALE VINUM PINOT NOIR 2021, R195. At 12.5% alcohol, this is a lighter, European-style Pinot Noir. It comes across with notes of leather, tobacco and fresh raspberry, leaving you with a hint of vanilla. A complex wine that tastes like more!
VAN LOVEREN BLUE VELVET PINOT NOIR 2021, R80, is a fun, enjoyable Pinot Noir with a slightly spicy finish and a lingering taste of ripe strawberries. Great value for money.

PAUL CLUVER VILLAGE PINOT NOIR 2020, R125, has a pretty pink complexion with light berries on the nose – the taste doesn’t linger, no matter how badly one wants it to! Rounded and velvety, it also manages to be fun and flamboyant.
The winE pAnEl’s piCk
PAUL CLUVER SEVEN FLAGS PINOT NOIR 2017, R800. It’s pricey, so strictly for special occasions – but it really is magnificent. This masterpiece has dark cherry on the palate and a full mouth feel. The taste lingers like a good dream.
SPIER CHARDONNAY PINOT NOIR 2021, R75, is a wonderfully fresh blend of two much-loved varietals. This unpretentious wine is all about easy drinking on a sunny afternoon with friends and family.
CREATION PINOT NOIR 2020, R220, is a cold-climate Pinot Noir from the Hemel-enAarde Valley. Anoseofmy mom’s brandied cherries, and dark stone fruit on the palate, with a hint of black plums. A lovely wine with real heft.
DE GRENDEL OP DIE BERG PINOT NOIR 2020, R260, is dark in colour and slightly heavier than the others we tasted. It has initial hints of strawberry and dark cherry, and is complex and balanced. An excellent wine.
BLACK ELEPHANT VINTNERS & CO PINOT NOIR BRUT ROSÉ, R300, is a very impressive MCC created by this Franschhoek trio. It’s strikingly pale pink in the glass and delightfully dry, and needs to be drunk well chilled.
CAPE OF GOOD HOPE SNEEUWKRANS ELANDSKLOOF PINOT NOIR 2019, R365, is grown at uniquely high altitude and is sweeter than most. Interestingly spicy, it is great paired with a curry.
MAASTRICHT PINOT NOIR 2020, R160, made by Thys Louw, is a beautifully light wine with juicy red fruit on the palate and hints of spice on the nose. The flavours release gently and elegantly.
