Farmer's Weekly (South Africa)
Dear Norbert,
I am sorry to hear that your house burned down, but thank you for the request for a new home of traditional American styling.
The home depicted here is one with a rather complicated roof. I’ve configured a layout of rooms that would fit into that roofed area.
The living area is on the ground floor, while the bedrooms are all upstairs. The roof, while structurally a bit complex, accommodates the bedrooms on top, with space to spare. The floor over the garage is made of concrete and is therefore fireproof, while the upstairs floor over the living room area is made of pinepole rafters placed horizontally and covered with wood. The floor logs are openbeamed, adding a rustic feel.
Slate tiles are still available, and will certainly diminish the chance of another fire. Kind regards,
Jonno
