Bloemfonte­in – Members of the South African Boer

Goat Breeders’ Associatio­n held a national sale at the Bloemfonte­in Showground­s on 18 October. Goats from 19 stud breeders were on offer.

The highest-priced ram was sold by Leonard du Raan of Douglas to Pieter Smith and Pip Nieuwoudt of Nama Stud, Nieuwoudtv­ille, for R65 000.

The highest-priced ewe was sold by Casper Byleveld of Nico Botha Stud, Britstown, to Pip Nieuwoudt for R50 000, achieving a new South African sale record price for an ewe.

Rams sold for an average price of R19 935, ewes for an average of R10 548, ewes with kids for R13 333, and kid ewes for R9 666. The auction was conducted by OVK, with André van Zyl as the auctioneer. – Gavin Isted
