UK researchers want that country’s government to introduce a 14% tax on red meat and a 79% tax on processed meat such as bacon.
Led by Marco Springmann of the University of Oxford, the study, published in the journal PLOS- ONE, said that including the social health cost of red and processed meat consumption in the price could lead to health and environmental benefits. Red and processed meat consumption is associated with increased mortality from chronic diseases. – Alan Harman
