UK researcher­s want that country’s government to introduce a 14% tax on red meat and a 79% tax on processed meat such as bacon.

Led by Marco Springmann of the University of Oxford, the study, published in the journal PLOS- ONE, said that including the social health cost of red and processed meat consumptio­n in the price could lead to health and environmen­tal benefits. Red and processed meat consumptio­n is associated with increased mortality from chronic diseases. – Alan Harman
