Adjusting living space for greater privacy

-

Dear Jonno,

I would like my doublevolume rondavel converted into two single spaces side by side, linked by a passageway. The one side should contain the living area and the other the bedrooms, thus ensuring privacy.

I also want an office connected to the passage. The living area must be close to a boma.

Kind regards,

Lesole

Dear Lesole,

As per our telephone conversation, I have increased the diameter of the rondavels from 10m to 12m to accommodate the en suite bathrooms. This will allow for more space, particularly in the bedrooms.

Shown on the layout are the beds and cupboards in bedrooms 1 and 2 (the smallest). The inclusion of the en suite bathrooms reduces bedroom sizes, but it’s the modern trend.

The shower room window of bedroom 4 is a reflection solar tube, but further natural light can be created by placing a skylight capping over the roof apex of the bedroom rondavel.

The roof timbering for the 12m-span rondavels is something that needs careful structural design, but these details will be included in your final drawings.

I’ll leave the placement of the boma to you. Kind regards, Jonno Jonno Smith is a registered architect.
