The website 1820settlers.com is a free genealogy resource dedicated to the settlers and their descendants ( see FW, 26 June). Its goal is to build a complete and accurate record of all the 1820 Settlers and their families.

Users can do advanced searches for ancestors, families, settler parties, letters, ships, gravestones, birth certificates and more.

The Facebook page bit.ly/ 1820Settler has more than 9 000 members with discussions, announcements, downloadable files, a list of available books and other resources.

Questions pertaining to any significant historical occurrence or person are shared, and many of the responses and answers make remarkable reading.
