The eight-year high surge in prices of US maize and soya bean is boosting farmers’ incomes and their demand for land, tractors and tools.

This represents a turnaround for the agricultur­e sector after farmers struggled for years with a series of challenges, according to Reuters.

In western Iowa, for example, the increased farming income is helping to revitalise the rural economy, after a deadly flood in 2019 submerged fields and drove some producers out of business.
