Christin Hunter, marketing communications manager for Pannar Seed, writes about the company’s new product line-up for white and yellow maize farmers in South Africa.

At Pannar, we are steadfast in our commitment to farmers and their futures. One of the most important ways in which we show our commitment is by offering a superior range of products and services. As a multi-crop specialist, Pannar offers a broad crop portfolio characterised by good yield potential, adaptability and stability, which minimises the risk in crop production. The Pannar crop package has thus been enhanced with several new maize hybrids.

YELLOW MAIZE HYBRIDS

Pannar’s yellow maize package of ultraearly, early, medium-early and medium hybrids offers a good long-term riskmitigating strategy. These consistently stable hybrids are widely adapted and agronomically well balanced.

• PAN 5R- 882BR

This is a new, medium-early stacked gene hybrid with second-generation stalk-borer resistance. It is part of the PAN 5A-182 platform, which is widely adapted for all production areas and is a yield leader in the eastern Highveld. PAN 5R-882BR has good bushel weight, and produces excellent-quality, flinty grain with a golden yellow colour that is very popular with merchants. It has excellent general disease tolerance.

• PAN 5R- 642R

This is an exciting addition to the medium-early growth class with tolerance to glyphosate. It is well adapted to the north-western Free State and North West. It exhibits strong emergence and seedling vigour in soils with less than 10% clay in the topsoil. It yields very well and was a dominant performer in trials this past season.

WHITE MAIZE HYBRIDS

The Pannar white maize hybrid package is distinguished by its exceptional performance, adaptability and stability. These hybrids are agronomically well balanced and renowned for grain and milling quality.

• PAN 5R-547R

This season, Pannar introduces the PAN 5R-547R platform. This new hybrid with exceptional yield potential falls into the medium-early growth class. It has very good standability and is well adapted to the sandy soils of the north-western Free State and North West regions. This hybrid should be strongly considered by farmers in the western production areas.

• PAN 5R-561R

This is an entirely new platform making its debut in the medium-early class. This hybrid impressed in trials with its strong agronomic traits and exceptional yield, particularly in western production regions. This hybrid often produces productive tillers, which contribute to its impressive prolificacy index. Its relatively longer and thinner ears facilitate rapid grain dry-down and better tolerance to cob diseases.

Farmers can reduce variability in productivity and profitability on their farms by choosing these solid performers. Furthermore, Pannar’s agronomic specialists will help farmers plant with confidence, knowing that they will reap the maximum return on every bag.
