UNITED KINGDOM

An organisation called the Innovation Farmers Hop Trial recently introduced a trial project to UK beer makers and hops growers. According to the organisation, the new varieties of organic hops are experimental and would hopefully be resilient to climate change, which could assist with beer production in the country.

The trial has introduced two new hops varieties that can be grown in warmer temperatures.

AUSTRALIA

Dairy Australia recently released a statement about the impact the increasing price of cheese has had on consumers.

In the report, it said that over the past 24 months, the average price of a block of cheese had risen by 23%, which has led to decrease in sales.

The organisation said this had resulted in consumers opting to purchase artisanal cheeses.

“The change in consumer behaviour comes as inflation and volatility in the dairy industry, including the rising cost of milk, drive up prices at the checkout.”

SOUTH KOREA

As the country is in full election mode, South Koreans who are feeling the pinch of rising vegetable costs have dominated campaigning. Law enforcement announced that voters are banned from taking green onions with them to the polling stations in protest following a controversial statement made by President Yoon Suk Yeol. During the campaigning, Yoon visited a grocery store in Seoul, where he spoke about government’s efforts to stabilise the price of food. According to the media, he said that the price of green onions was reasonable, although the average price of green onions had increased by over 80%. –
