Race is a red herring

- Phillip Ronbeck Saxonwold

If you’d listened to President Jacob Zuma’s speech to the ANC Youth League in Cape Town on July 17 — in which he continued to single out all SA capital as being both “monopoly” and “white”, and advocate radical economic transformation as the only solution (white people’s legitimate assets to be stolen by the Guptas and Zuma’s other cronies) — you’d be more certain than ever that if anyone needs to be radically transformed it is Zuma, with his reckless proposals.

If he continues to encourage and lead SA down this ruinous, racist path on which the law-abiding, taxpaying white minority is continually tormented and bullied in an attempt to confiscate and dispossess it of its livelihood, then his and the ANC patronage faction’s foolishness will result in much suffering for all of SA.

The real solutions to SA’S challenges are as follows:

● Privatising most state-owned enterprises and punishing corruption;

● Ensuring sober, competent teachers are in classrooms on time. If not, there must be consequences. The SA Democratic Teachers Union must be reeled in;

● Reforming labour laws to allow for the inexpensive dismissal of unproductive employees;

● Sensible and rational land reform; and

● Curbing alcohol, cigarette and drug abuse.

These policies will result in much-needed investment and a wealthy treasury, which will be able to meaningfully reduce poverty, unemployment and inequality.

Sadly there is no quick fix to SA’S problems. Zuma and his faction’s ill-conceived attempts to bypass reality by victimising white and other minorities in an attempt to gain short-term economic benefit will only result in tremendous long-term bloodshed and tragedy.

All the people of SA deserve better. They have already endured more than enough through our country’s history.
