Gabon puts down attempted coup

Financial Mail - - MARKET WATCH -

The Gabonese government put down an attempted coup this week by some mutineering soldiers who had seized the state-owned national broadcaster, claiming to “save a democracy in danger”. Order had been restored in the capital, Libreville, said communications minister Guy-bertrand Mapangou on Monday. President Ali Bongo has been convalescing in a Moroccan hospital for two months, leaving a power vacuum in the oil-producing nation.
