CHECKOUT COUNTER

DHL Express has launched its new mobile and desktop app aimed at improving the online shopping experience for consumers in Africa. The platform, DHL Africa eshop, allows customers to shop directly from more than 200 US- and Uk-based online retailers, with all shipments delivered by DHL Express, to the shopper’s door.
2. L’oréal gets high-end boost
Enduring demand for luxury skincare products boosted L’oréal sales in the first quarter, helping the Maybelline maker beat growth forecasts along with a slight improvement in its struggling lower-end product ranges. The French firm said revenues rose 11.4% to €7.6bn, up 7.7% on a like-for-like basis, that strips out the effect of currency swings and acquisitions.
3. Going local
H&M announced its first African collaboration with SA designer Palesa Mokubung and her fashion label, Mantsho. The collection, available from August 15, will be sold in all SA stores as well as exclusive flagships around the world and all H&M online markets.
4. Possible blip ahead
Netflix gave a weak forecast last week that unnerved investors just as rivals prepare to escalate Hollywood’s streaming video wars. The group’s quarterly results did beat Wall Street targets, though. From January through March, Netflix added 7.86-million paid subscribers internationally, compared with the average analyst estimate of 7.14-million, according to IBES data from Refinitiv. Netflix said it saw “some modest short-term churn effect”, or dropping of its service, in response to the price increases.
