MTN will aim to sell 10m en­try-level smart­phones at a price of $20 (about R290) over the next three years, as it tries to grow data rev­enue, re­ported Busi­ness Day. The mo­bile op­er­a­tor has 225m sub­scribers in the Mid­dle East and Africa, but only a third of these reg­u­larly use the in­ter­net, the re­port stated. Ac­cord­ing to the pa­per, MTN group CEO Rob Shuter said if they were able to mi­grate that many ex­ist­ing cus­tomers to smart­phones, it would be “a ma­jor boost for in­ter­net pen­e­tra­tion”.
