After the pay-off line, “Ramen, Amen”, on the black-and-white signage caught my eye, I’ve been dying to make my way to Melville and give Love Me So a try. Specialising in ramen, Korean barbecue, Japanese tapas and much more, the menu is extensive and caters for everyone from vegans to carnivores. Looking around, the decor is industrial-meets-retro – keep an eye out for the offbeat artwork – with a dim, moody feel inside.

My friend and I started with the tuna tataki (seared sushi-grade tuna) and miso eggplant (slow-roasted aubergine brushed with white miso paste and sprinkled with sesame seeds). I have to say, the eggplant dish was one of the tastiest meals I’ve eaten in a long time! Our neighbours could not stop raving about the crispy pork pancakes, either.

To follow, I had the miso tofu ramen – which was deliciously salty with tofu sautéed to perfection – and my companion opted for the beef sirloin Korean BBQ with bibimbap (rice with vegetables), which was full of interesting flavours.

The generous portions left neither of us capable of managing dessert, so I’ll be heading back to try their much-talkedabout black sesame ice cream or “banoffi” tempura (banana fried in a coconuttempura batter, dipped in a ginger-honey sauce and served with clotted cream).

Another reason to return is the extensive cocktail menu, which features loads of traditional concoctions, as well as some interesting Asian-inspired options. Not to mention, cocktails are often served at half price! A trendy, easy-going spot, I highly recommend Love Me So for a fun meal out.
