Strawberry Festival, a feast of fun
Abig thank you to each visitor and family who attended the Strawberry Festival presented by Ola at Redberry Farm last weekend.
We had 9 322 visitors excluding sponsors, staff, stall holders and partners, who enjoyed juicy strawberries with us. We are so proud of our local entertainers and event partners who brought us a jam-packed weekend lineup. Thank you to Ola, Group Editors, Algoa FM, SAB, Blitsdruk, George Municipality, the Outeniqua Tourism Association and all our sponsors for helping us create a fun, wholesome outdoor family weekend.
Well done to all the athletes who participated in sports events over the weekend. The 5km and 9km trail runs were completely sold out at 400 runners. Elfonzo Pieterse (Nedbank SWD) won the 5km race in the men's category and Vicky Cupido won the women's category. Lloyd Bosman from Nedbank SWD took first place in the 9km for men and Anita Beutel was the winner in the women's race.
The CrossFit George Fittest in the Garden Route competition grew to 70 entries. Individual Men first place went to Ruan Barnard (CrossFit Charisma), Individual Women first place to Rope Hope (CrossFit George) and first place for Team went to Cast Away (Unaffiliated).
This year's Redberry Farm Strawberry Eat-Off! winner was Lutie Boonzaaier, who wolfed down 1,267kg of strawberries in three minutes. The 2014 record of 1,788kg by Sam Rademan still stands!
