A JAZZY affair
The Bravo Lounge at the Garden Route Casino in Mossel Bay was alive with the sound of jazz on Sunday as the Battle of the Bands took place in the annual All that Jazz Festival this past weekend.
The weekend started with the Karaoke Idols Competition on Friday, and on Saturday Nur Abrahams, one of South Africa's most soulful singers, entertained the festivalgoers.
On Sunday a packed Bravo Lounge was fortunate to enjoy the best of the best the Southern Cape has to offer on the jazz stage.
This is the 4th year that the event took place and it is growing in popularity. Seven bands performed while jazz lovers were swinging, swaying and enjoying themselves.
The very first band to perform was Die Katz from George. The band members are Lynette Peterson, Kelsey Albertus, Kerwin Albertus and Dian Swanepoel. Kerwin and Dian are learners of Outeniqua High School and only 16 and 18 years old.
Kerwin not only plays the saxophone masterfully, but also writes his owns songs, some of which were performed by this young band.
The future of jazz is certainly guaranteed by youthful talent like this.
Prerogatives from George won the battle of the bands for the second time, with Hotbox from Beaufort West second and Bottom Line, also from George, in the third place. The best vocalist was Keenan Daniels from Prerogatives and the best instrumentalist was Henry Jumat from Bottom Line.
