Invitational turns 10

-

The Oubaai golf invitational not only celebrated its 10th year, it also managed to fundraise more than R200 000 this past weekend. According to Werner Welgemoed, the founder of the event, it has grown over the years and now involves 100 players and three fiercely contested rounds of golf.

Welgemoed says it started as a group of friends coming together to play golf but has grown into a prestigious event. “This is one of the biggest highlights on the Garden Route golfing calendar where friends meet, golf is played and memories are made and reviewed.”

This year’s event supported Famsa, the Night Shelter in George, Child Welfare in Great Brak River and the Hope Church feeding scheme. Welgemoed says this year’s event was also the most successful to date. “Not only was the field full, the course is in excellent condition and the weather was superb.”

The winning team members are Gawie van Heerden, Leon Campher, Jannie Barnard and Des van Viegen. Welgemoed was the individual winner.

He would like to thank Heather

Park Superspar, De Dekke Spar and Pacaltsdorp Spar for their support and making it possible to give.

Golfers can look forward to the Invitational going to Mauritius in September 2018. For more information, please contact Welgemoed on 082 924
