Speeding in Knysna Road

-

Kevin Holloway, George:

Six months after moving to George in February 2016 I wrote to you with respect to the uncontrolled and consistent speeding that occurs on the road which serves Groenkloof and runs past Kraaibosch retirement village (it still has no name).

Having pleaded with Cecil Noble and Donovan Saptoe (our chief traffic officer) and the Council in general to PLEASE do something positive about controlling the speedsters on this stretch of road, with no results, it's finally happened.

Last night some idiotic motorcyclist testing the top speed of his machine went past at something like 200km, turned around at the end and then tried to repeat the exercise in the opposite direction.

It was then that the sickening crunch was heard outside my home as I believe he hit two cars.

Being a paraplegic I was unable to go and see what result his idiotic behaviour had caused and if he was still alive, but it wasn't long before the expected red and blue flashing lights appeared outside.

I am still predicting that with the everincreasing volume of traffic using this road as the Groenkloof area grows, the uncontrolled speeding, including 12-ton sand trucks belonging to local suppliers, is going to result in an accident the results of which I would hate to predict.

I once again PLEAD with all those concerned to get off their backsides, throw out the red tape and procrastination and do something urgently about the ridiculous speeding that occurs down Knysna Road and on the streets in this part of town.

How many lives must be taken before those in their ivory towers in George consider this problem as something important other than finding 50 reasons why nothing can be done?

* George Traffic Chief Donovan Saptoe will speak directly to the complainant regarding the matter.
