All systems go for Pink Loerie
It's all systems go for one of the biggest gay events on the South African calendar. The Pink Loerie Mardi Gras and Arts Festival is in its 18th incarnation, with an exciting line-up with some new events. This year it coincides with the tenth Mr Gay World.
The date is set for Thursday to Sunday,
24 to 27 May, and thousands of people are expected in Knysna.
The Pink Loerie is a well-known annual event in Knysna, and this year the programme offers some innovations. One of these is the Pink Loerie Food and Craft Market at the Knysna Mall. There are still a few stalls available, so hasten to secure your spot.
The Mr Gay World 2018 President’s Ball and Fundraising Auction is on Friday evening, 25 May at Villa Castollini and the Grand Finale on Saturday night at the same venue. With delegates from more than 20 countries, this dazzling event will have the gay world’s eyes on Knysna as the press follow them on their week-long journey. During the week the delegates will participate in community projects in and around Knysna. Attention then shifts to the two events that culminate in the crowning of Mr Gay World 2018.
Organiser John-Louis O’Neill says the people of Knysna have shown warm support for the event. "We are overwhelmed by the support of guest houses, hotels, restaurants and many others who are supporting us here in Knysna. I want to thank everybody and invite everyone to attend the events."
The economic boost is welcome in the aftermath of the fires that swept through the town and surrounding areas last year. Full programme details are available at www. pinkloeriefoundation.com.
