Don’t miss annual Knysna Wine Festival
Greater Knysna local lass Belinda Hobson and her team will host the successful annual Knysna
Wine Festival for the 13th time on Monday and Tuesday, 2 and 3 July from 17:30 to 21:00.
This year the festival has moved from its usual home, and will be situated in the midst of the tranquil waters of the Knysna estuary, on Thesen Island.
The wine festival still remains one of the firm favourites of the over
120 annual Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival events and the most popular mid-week event. “Originally, we wanted to launch an exclusive Wine Festival in the Garden Route - one that would allow guests to interact with high profile vintners while tasting their wines,” explained Hobson. And so the Knysna Wine Festival was born and joined the successful Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival in 2005.
Not only does this festival allow participants to enjoy the best South African wines, but also to contribute towards a Knysna charity. This year a portion of the door takings will be donated to Little Angels Special Care Centre for Children with Disabilities.
Hundreds of wine lovers flock to this beautiful wine festival to quaff the more than 200 wines from more than 50 different wine estates. Wine connoisseurs have the pleasure of tasting the many wines and champagne, as well as single malt whiskies presented by Hector McBeth, Gin from Phantom Gin, craft beers and cheeses. These wines, whiskies, beer and gin will be available for purchase at special cellar door prices and cheeses at low celebratory prices. “This year the wine sales will be managed by the wine merchants themselves, guaranteeing cellar prices to all,” said Hobson.
The new Wine Festival presenting partner, Pick n Pay, is bringing back the Pick n Pay Wine Club Tasting Room. Here visitors can enjoy a range of food-and-wine pairings hosted by an expert in the field. Learn why oysters pair best with a crisp Riesling, or if it’s true that a Shiraz or Cabernet is the perfect companion to a sizzling steak, for example.
“We are absolutely thrilled to, once again, celebrate our festival with sponsors Audi Centre George, Protea Hotel Knysna Quays and Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival,” said Hobson.
Tickets are limited and cost a mere R150 per person. Each ticket ensures the entrant a wine-tasting glass, unlimited wine tastings, wine information booklet, and entry to the numerous lucky draws.
Tickets are available directly from the Knysna and Sedgefield tourism offices or online at webtickets.co.za.
