Inja project needs your help
Garden Route SPCA goes out into communities daily to help animals in need and, like every winter, they are presently faced with many undernourished dogs and cats. They always take along "Inja bakkies" (containers), which are plastic containers filled with dog or cat food, to feed these animals that don't have adequate food. Note is taken of the ones that have inadequate shelter and the inspectors do their best to address this as soon as possible.
There is also a daily stream of visitors to the SPCA premises - people who care enough to brave the cold and bring their animals in so the pets can be examined, treated if necessary and then given a dish of food. The rapport between the SPCA staff and the animal owners is a vital part of making people aware of how to care for their animals properly and to establish trust in the SPCA staff.
Since the "Inja bakkies" project began more than four years ago, SPCA volunteer Susanne Juling, who pioneered the venture, her family, SPCA staff and volunteers have packed thousands of bakkies with food donated by the public. The SPCA thanks Characters for printing the labels for the bakkies for free. These display the SPCA emergency phone number on every bakkie so that people have the information at hand in case of a crisis.
Bakkies are urgently needed at the SPCA – ice-cream, yoghurt, margarine or any similar containers would be very welcome. Dry dog or cat food and any unused kennels or blankets you may have, would also be appreciated.
