Cameron Dugmore has availed himself for the position of the Western Cape chairperson of the African National Congress (ANC) in the party's upcoming provincial congress later this year. Dugmore, who has been a member of the Western Cape Legislator since 1994, was head boy of York High School in 1981 and played a prominent role in the End Subscription Campaign in the 1980s.

He said he made this decision after he was approached by a number of ANC branches in the Western Cape, including the Southern Cape, to consider availing himself.

"I had a number of discussions with my comrades and with my family before deciding to make myself available, obviously within the ANC culture and tradition. I believe we need to focus on renewing our organisation; we suffered a lot of damage over the last couple of years.

The confidence that the comrades are showing in me means that I also I am available and willing to serve this organisation in whatever capacity. have to play a role in terms of rising to that call, but ultimately it is the branches that have to decide," he said.

"But I definitely feel that I am available and willing to serve this organisation in whatever capacity."

He said that for the ANC to win back the province, they have to go back to the basics and build strong and active branches in every ward of the province.

"Our focus needs organisational renewal and [we need to] build strong branches so that the ANC in the Western Cape can be taken seriously," he added.
