Gourmets & Gourmands an evening for the annals

-

“Boerekos and Bollywood,” a theme full of promise, and boy, did it deliver! The opulent colours, a flash mob of dancers and the glamorous attire of the guests at the 2018 Carpe Diem School Gourmets and Gourmands contributed to the festive atmosphere of the event.

The passionate team of Carpe Diem School personnel, chefs, restaurants and sponsors again put forward, for the 10th consecutive year, an event like none other.

The participating restaurants, François Ferreira Academy, Fat Fish, Rooi Kombuis, The Cellar, Su Casa, Augusta Grill, Pomodoro, Salina’s, The Gannet, Garden Route Game Lodge, Fancourt, 101 Meade, Turnberry Hotel, Thousand Sensations and Bistro Celeiro, served mouth-watering dishes. The teams from these restaurants not only put a great deal of creativity into the event, they also give their time selflessly each year. Delightful wines from a variety of vineyards were expertly paired with each dish.

Guests were captivated by the energetic Frederick Becker of Bekker Auctioneers who again masterfully led the auctioning off of all 20 lots.

Each lot that was auctioned off this year was of substantial value. The bid on the exotic prize of a trip for 2 persons for 8 days to India was scooped up by a patron who has supported the event for the past 10 years, for an astounding R65 000. One Tag Heuer and two Michel Herbelin watches, donated by Michel Nunes of Raffaele D’Amato Jewellers, were among other high value lots auctioned off, as were a hand-knotted Melki Kelim and a seven-night trip to Namibia.

Andries Hartman of Hartman and

Sons Butchery presented a toast on the brilliant 10 years since the inauguration of the Gourmets and Gourmands event. He reiterated that “it is an uplifting experience for sponsors to know that the lives of the special needs children of Carpe Diem School are touched by the proceeds of this event”.

Delightful wines from a variety of vineyards were expertly paired with each dish.

Raffaele D’Amato Jewellers, Nedbank, Xerox and Ciro coffee again graciously supported the event.

Mathys Roets performed music by Leonard Cohen, Roger Whittaker, Neil Diamond and Koos du Plessis. He shared some experiences he’s had since he became paralysed nine years ago. His positive outlook on life from the perspective of a disabled person was inspirational.
