Traffic criminals with no respect

-

François Vogés, Blanco:

It is sad that a motorbike rider injures himself by driving into a GO GEORGE bus.

I see reckless driving from motorbikes daily, especially early when they pass slow vehicles over the solid lines ahead of oncoming traffic.

Many of them skip red traffic lights just like cyclists and many motorists.

They are traffic criminals with no respect for other road users. My question - where are the traffic officials? Not one in sight from Blanco to the CBD. We need strong men and women to apply zero tolerance in our beautiful city.

George Municipality's director of protection services, Steven Erasmus, replies:

Motorcycles have a specific way of moving through traffic, and it is not always done in a safe manner. We are currently enforcing all the traffic laws, which include enforcement against motorcycles. Resources will be prioritised to put traffic officers in a position to increase enforcement of traffic rules pertaining to motorcycles.

It will assist the traffic department greatly if the complainant has specific examples of problem bikers or areas in which alleged reckless driving occurs frequently, which can be mailed to dcsaptoe@george.gov.za or reported to 044 878 2400.

It should be noted that the incident referred to in this letter refers to a biker who had lost control over his motorcycle and fell, and the bike slid into the bus. The biker was not injured against the bus.
