Church celebrates sixth anniversary
The Pentecostal Protestant Church’s annual general meeting in Bitou on 19 to 20 October coincided with the 60th anniversary celebrations of the church, which took the form of a gala dinner at Piesang Valley Community Hall.
The church was established on 10 October 1958 in Bloemfontein and a large number of assemblies were established across South Africa. A total of 90 assemblies attended the celebrations. Special recognition was given to their forerunners during a cake-cutting ceremony.
Elections for the new term were also conducted over the two days and the national board members were re-elected for another three-year term. The members are: president - pastor Barend Magielies; deputy president pastor Nicklaas Koen; general secretary - pastor Jacob Williams; and head treasurer - pastor Francois Muller. The additional members are pastors Isaac Jacobs, Tyrone Africa, Benjamin Penniken and Arthur Keating.
The church adopted a new management plan and discussed its cooperation with other pentecostal churches in the Southern African region.
Magielies congratulated the newly elected national executive committees of the women’s, youth and children’s ministries. He emphasised the importance of a church that impacts society and said, “We need to be able to positively change the lives of the vulnerable in our communities as a church. Our plan to move into every corner to reach the destitute will be realised through faith, commitment and hard work.”
