Family relocate tombstone

-

Desmond Desai, Bellville: On 24 October 2018, a little more than three weeks ago, we reassembled and relocated the vandalised old Rosemoor cemetery tombstone of my grandfather, Coovergi Haribhia Desai, at the George Memoriam Cemetery. This memorable event went a long way towards restoring the dignity and memory of our loved ones.

This process was made possible after my relevant request was granted by the George Municipality in their letter to me in January 2018. In July this year, I arranged with Mr Ferdie Mentoor for a suitable place in the cemetery, who assisted me kindly in this matter. Then, on 24 October 2018, my wife Zalda, my eldest son Nirdev and his family joined me in the completion of the reconstruction and relocation of the said vandalised tombstone. A simple memorial plaque was attached to the headstone which can be found on my Facebook posts together with a number of photos taken.

We, the family of

Coovergi Haribhai Desai, wish to express our deepest gratitude to the municipality, the George Herald, and the officials Radie Loubser and Ferdie Mentoor for their respective roles in this matter.

The George Herald editor as well as their reporter took much-appreciated personal and keen interest in our matter. An article appeared in the George Herald on 11 August 2016 following professional and serious investigation into our matter.
