Young ‘seeds’ blossom on stage

- Michelle Pienaar

Young dancers of the local dance school Rhythmical Seeds blossomed on stage at their year-end concert last Saturday at the George Civic Centre. A fresh mixture of acrobatics, jazz, contemporary dance, Hip Hop, break dance and ballet had the audience captivated.

Rooted in symbolism, the production Photosynthesis takes one through the journey of a seedling's development into a strong oxygen-producing plant. "When you plant a seed, it needs all the right elements to help its growth," said producer Lizette Gerber, head of the dance school.

"At some point, seeds start to grow and develop, despite certain setbacks. Once young dancers start developing their talents, they produce oxygen as a by-product. The oxygen is symbolic of them sharing their talents with the world."

Gerber is beyond pleased and proud of all 160 students' performance and willingness to learn, since the conception of the dance school two years ago. The cast ranges from three-year-olds to adult dancers. Gerber's youngest sister, Jani (17), gave a starling performance in the item Young, on par with the international standards of acrobatics. Lizette Gerber gave the show a personal touch, joining her dancers on stage for the last item Million Dreams.
