George dominates Eden club tennis
George Tennis Club dominated the Growthpoint Top Guns Eden Club Championship which was held at the George Tennis Club last weekend.
George Tennis Club, with six of its teams taking part, won both the A and B divisions and claimed the runner-up positions as well, thus scooping up all the prize-money at stake.
The A Division winners will head off for an all expenses paid trip to Sun City where they will compete in the national championships in February 2019.
The winning teams of George Tennis Club were as follows:
A Division:
Damien Nezar, Natasha Smit, Leander Peterson and Bernice Bezuidenhout. B Division: Flip Theron, Thea Malherbe, Elvin Wentzel and Wendy Crowther. The runners-up:
A Division: Helgard Muller, Karin Deltern, Jackie Jones and Charl Opperman.
B Division:
Jonathan Withuhn, Allison Nezar, Karl Smith and Janet Seegmuller.
The club championship was organised by Eden Tennis and hosted at George Tennis Club. Debra Hyde, the tournament director, said the players were blessed with glorious weather all day long and enjoyed competing in the shortened format in a tournament atmosphere provided by the Growthpoint and TSA banners. “There were many closely contested matches and the camaraderie between the players was evident both on and off the court.”
She also thanked Growthpoint Properties for their most generous sponsorship and said Marius Bezuidenhout, chairperson of George Tennis Club, and his committee did an excellent job with the hospitality, lunch and snacks. The referee, Danie Steyl, also did a sterling job of scheduling matches and recording scores.
