StreetSmart diners give generously
StreetSmart SA, an organisation dedicated to helping street children rebuild their lives, has handed over R35 000 to its George beneficiary, Kidstop, for use in 2019.
The handover took place at an event held at The Fat Fish in George, a StreetSmart restaurant.
The donation is part of the total StreetSmart allocation of R1,7-million distributed nationally for 2019 to organisations working with children at risk of becoming street children.
StreetSmart collects money through the participation of restaurants, accommodation establishments and wine tasting venues.
"This amount was made possible by the generosity of the patrons and our partners, who in spite of tough economic circumstances, still give to make a difference, R5 at a time," said Margi Biggs, founder of StreetSmart.
Kidstop will use the funds towards the salary of their child and youth care worker, Anele Ngoyo.
"The many tiny drops of your StreetSmart donations cause a ripple effect. One child enabled to return home or to school is a child who grows up to be a useful adult.
Our organisation helps many such children. Thank you for your support of our work," said Ngoyo.
Verusca Venter, coordinator of StreetSmart George, invites restaurants and accommodation establishments to be part of the effort to help street children.
There are currently six establishments in George that embrace StreetSmart’s vision: 101 Meade Street, Lauren's Eatery, Malvern Manor, Nina's Café, Marshmallow Café and The Fat Fish.
