Unbeaten SWD remains victorious

-

The SWD cricket team recorded their fifth consecutive victory when they thumped Northern Cape by seven wickets in a one-sided match that was played at the Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn on Sunday. The visitors, who won the toss and opted to bat, were in a good position (48/1 in the 9th over) but they collapsed and were dismissed for a modest 88 (31,2 overs). The SWD bowling attack was on fire, with the performance of Tsepo Ndwandwa (3/17) the highlight. He was well supported by Marcello Piedt (2/21 in 5 overs), Stefan Tait (3/24 in 5,2 overs) and Neil Hornbuckle (2/22 in 10 overs). Grant Mokoena (25) was the best performer with the bat for the men from the Diamond City. Ndwandwa, who was selected for the SA Invitational XI to play Pakistan later this month, was impressive with the ball and recorded a career best performance. SWD only needed 16 overs to surpass the winning total (90/3). Neil Hornbuckle (43 from 40 balls, 2x6,

3x4) and Marco de Kock (33* from 24 balls, 3x6, 3x4) were the pick of the batsmen and helped SWD to record a very important bonus point victory. SWD now leads pool B (played 5; won 5; match points 22).

Their next match will be this weekend against Border at Buffalo Park in East London.

The summarised score card is:

Northern Cape 88 (Grant Mokoena 25, Marcello Piedt 2/21, Stefan Tait 3/24, Tsepo Ndwandwa 3/17, Neil Hornbuckle 2/22). SWD 90/3 (Neil Hornbuckle 43, Marco de Kock 33*). SWD won by 7 wickets.

Tsepo Ndwandwa (3/17) was in top form.

?? ?? SWD cricket coach, Baakier Abrahams, will be hoping his bowlers finish off the Border batsmen quickly in this weekend’s match at Buffalo Park in East London.
