Fun and games at sport and wellness day

-

Over 1 700 municipal staff dressed in their departmental colours on Friday 30 November and attended the annual Mayoral Sport and Wellness Day to have fun and participate in sports and games.

Executive Mayor Melvin Naik, who initiated the day, encouraged staff to enjoy their day to the fullest. "This is Council's way to say 'thank you' for the very hard work under tough circumstances. This is your day!"

While it was mostly meant to be fun, someone was in fact taking score and the Civil Engineering directorate was the clear Ladies enjoying themselves at the Zumba class. overall winner. Electrotechnical Services came second, with Corporate Services taking third place. Corporate Services won the potjiekos competition, while Financial Services with their coordinated effort won the cheerleading challenge.

The teams and individuals took part in a 5km big walk, Zumba, drafts, dominoes, egg and spoon race, 50m sprint, touch rugby, three-legged race, mini-football, netball, bag races, tug-ofwar, cheerleading, spiritual dancing and the potjiekos competition.

The organising committee would like to make a special mention of Angie Coleman, a local gym instructor, who graciously leads the Zumba session free of charge every year. Naik thanked the George community for their patience and understanding for the reduced municipal services on the day.

?? ?? What team am I in? Read my lips... Corporate Services called themselves the Mean Green team but were all rather festive. The Blue team of the Municipal Manager’s office wins at the bag race. The domino game is actually all fun.
