Donate only to true Salvation Army
With the festive season in full swing, the well-known Salvation Army bands will be out in force in various shopping areas of the country.
However, members of the public should be sure to only give funds to Salvation Army officers in uniform carrying a locked collection box.
Major Carin Holmes, PR secretary for the Salvation Army Southern Africa Territory, says, “Our bands are always delighted to contribute to the festivities by playing carols in shopping malls.
“Bands must have permission from malls to do so. But we no longer do house-tohouse collections, so members of the public should not give money to such house-tohouse collectors. Any suspicious activity can be reported to me on 082 994 4351, and I will direct callers to the right person”.
