- Kristy Kolberg

Atourist became the latest victim of an armed robbery at Victoria Bay recently when he was robbed of approximately

R180 000 worth of camera equipment and cash.

According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie, the victim was walking along the Victoria Bay railway line when he was approached by four men armed with knives on Friday 7 December.

"They threatened to stab him, after which they took his backpack and made off. The victim was not injured during the robbery," he said.

Prompt response by the police led to the arrest of a suspect on the railway line on Tuesday.

The suspect, who is not directly linked to the robbery, was in possession of a dangerous weapon. The investigation continues.

Although George is surrounded by magnificent hiking trails and scenery, people are reminded not to use these trails when they are alone. In the interest of personal safety and having assistance in the case of a physical or medical emergency, it is advisable to explore trails in groups. Steer away from isolated areas unless accompanied by a guide.
