No inaccuracies about manholes

-

Dr Dennis Farrell, George Business Chamber chairman:

I refer to the George Municipality's comment on last week's letters page that I provided inaccurate information regarding manholes that were covered by tar and Telkom was unable to access a faulty cable as they were waiting for approval from the municipality to open up the manholes.

Telkom reported the fault to them and informed us what the issue was, after which we reported it through the LED (local economic development department). The LED was very swift in addressing the problem. The feedback we received was that the relevant construction company will be informed to come do the work.

The work only commenced on Friday 7 December.

The municipality in their response refers to Courtenay Street but in this case the manhole/s were in Meade and Cathedral streets. Hence there is no inaccurate statement from myself in this regard as it is confirmed by the municipality that they close up manholes and later would do the saw cutting, etc. Clearly this was not done in this case.
