It’s Giant Pumpkin time again

The 2019 Giant Pumpkin Festival is taking place at Heidelberg show grounds on Friday and Saturday 8 and 9 March.

For the first time, there are big prizes to be won. The biggest pumpkin at the show will earn R17 500 and if your pumpkin breaks the SA record, it can earn you

R20 000. If your pumpkin weighs more than 750kg, you can take home R50 000, and if it breaks the world record, you can win a whopping R150 000.

In addition, prize money of R40 000 is up for grabs for the top 15 pumpkins. Besides the first prize of R17 500, the second prize is R8 000, the third prize R4 000, and so on, with pumpkin number 15 winning R300. The most beautiful and ugliest pumpkin will each also earn R300.

Many activities will be available, including food and drink stalls, live music and dancing, MTB races and a trail run, a

4x4 competitio­n, golf, bowls, a potjiekos competitio­n, a fun fair for the kids and lots more.

Visitors are welcome to stay in the tented camp on the show grounds, or bring their own camping equipment.

Bok van Blerk will be performing at 19:00 on Friday. Gates open at 16:00 and the entrance fee of R150 includes the show.

Entrance fee on Saturday: R20.

100km (Mini-Fondo) cycle race – R350 60km cycle race – R250

25km cycle race – R150

15km trail run – R150

Enter online at www.pumpkinfes­tival. co.za or at Spur in Heidelberg from 18:00 to 21:00 on Friday, or at the show grounds from 06:00 to 07:00 on Saturday.
