Don’t miss the Koi Show this weekend

-

This weekend offers the public the opportunity to be mesmerised by the vivid colours and patterns of the best koi fish in the country. The annual Koi Show will take place at the Garden Route Mall, on Saturday 16 March from 09:00 to 16:00 and Sunday from 09:00 to 12:00. The organisers hope there will be in excess of 350 koi on display ranging from 12cm to 90cm. This year they are extremely honoured to have one of the world’s top ZNA certified judges, Kate McGill-Andrews, who has the highest level of certification in the ZNA and is one of only 70 certified judges in the world.

McGill, who is from Australia, is also an author of many koi books, her first being

Koi Appreciation, the first step.

She will be joined by Mark Kleijkers, the chairman of NVN Chapter in Holland, as well as five South African judges, including one of the top 70 ZNA certified judges from South Africa, Mike Harvey. The organisers are looking forward to this year’s show with such high-ranking judges officiating.

Introductory walkabout educational talks will commence at 11:00 and 15:00 on Saturday. During the walkabout the organisers will explain what the judges are looking for in the various varieties, what makes a koi a champion and how to choose a koi from an early age. Come and be amazed at these man-made living jewels that started out as dull brown carp. If you are interested, please be there at the set times and gather just inside the entrance.

Everyone is invited. For further information or queries please contact Phillip on 082 851 6404.
