Miss Full Figure Garden Route 2019 crowned
Plus-size models coming from different towns in the Southern Cape took part in the Miss
Full Figure Garden Route competition which was held at the Conville Civic Centre on Saturday 30 March.
Thando Gauzela from Knysna was crowned as the Miss Garden Route Full Figure 2019, Kay-Lee Piet from Oudtshoorn was first princess and Priscilla Foster from George second princess.
The competition, the brainchild of organiser Carly Adams, seeks to create a platform for plus-size women where they can embrace their femininity, and also encourages them to feel comfortable in their own bodies. "You don't need to be skinny to be a model, you can be a plus-size model and still be beautiful," said Adams.
Adams started the competition in 2017 after she realised that there's a need for plus-size models to have their own competitions in the region. Women first compete in their own towns and the winners go on to represent the town in a regional competition. This year 15 contestants took part.
Adams encourages ladies to take part in the competition and not be afraid to compete. "This is an annual event and I would like to encourage people to come on board and assist us whenever they can. Next year we want to make this competition bigger and reach all the people of the Southern Cape," she said. The colourful event was attended by family and friends of the contestants, as well as community members.
