Dermatologists join forces and expand scope of practice!
Dermatology patients in the Southern Cape have reason to smile after Dr Heinrich van Rensburg joined forces with the only dermatologist in the area, Dr Willem Fouchè.
Van Rensburg has relocated to George and has been in practice since 2 September 2019.
For the past few years, Dr Fouchè had his hands full as the only dermatologist in this area.
Patient numbers have been increasing steadily - partly due to the influx of new residents - creating a rising demand, which can now be met with improved and expanded services. "I have felt the demand for a while and am therefore thrilled to have Dr van Rensburg join our practice," commented Dr Fouchè. "We can now offer our patients the medical service they deserve while still keeping up with the demand."
How will the practice change for you, our patient?
Shorter waiting periods and the ability to accommodate urgent consultations;
The availability of a doctor when his colleague is on leave;
More complicated cases can now receive the input of two specialists on site;
The practice can be expanded to include outreach clinics, increasing access to remote areas for people in need;
Technological advancement.
The practice will start an outreach programme in Still Bay in addition to the existing regular visits to Mossel Bay and Oudtshoorn.
On the technology front, two new phototherapy units will be in operation. UVA and narrowband UVB will be available for patients suffering from psoriasis, vitiligo, eczema and lymphoma. The practice now also has two FotoFinder Mole Mapping systems enabling both doctors to screen and diagnose lesions in their own examination rooms. A red light photodynamic therapy unit, for the treatment of sun damage, precancerous and cancerous skin lesions, is now also in operation.
