Open letter to Mossel Bay community

- Des Harris, Mossel Bay:

As the Men’s Ministry of the Methodist Church of Mossel Bay, we write this letter to those with a compassionate heart for the destitute and the neglected - to those who want to be actively involved in food relief for poor and hungry people.

We have had contact with a Christian community in Midstream, Centurion. We learnt that they are feeding thousands of poverty stricken, hungry people a meal approved by a dietician.

This meal is made up of soya, vitamin powder, soup mix and rice. One serving unit weighs about 430g and feeds six people, at an approximate cost of R10.

This food project has been in existence since 2008. They currently are distributing in excess of 20 000 units per week. This equates to 120 000 plus meals per week. This is done by a team of only 15 people!

Here is a cost effective way for us to reach out to thousands of people in need in our

Greater Mossel Bay area.

We need your help!

To get started, we need equipment such as electronic kitchen scales, heat sealers, plastic bags, buckets and boxes for packaging.

To provide 5 000 units (30 000 meals), we would need 600kg soya, 25kg vitamin powder, 150kg soup mix and 1380kg rice. The total cost for these ingredients is approximately R40 000. Do not be put off by these numbers. Psalm 18 teaches that we can move past these walls. We can do it, Mossel Bay.

All legal, financial and regulatory processes will be followed strictly under the auspices of the church.

If you feel led to support this worthy cause with equipment, ingredients, or financially, please get in touch with us now.

If nothing else, your prayerful support is needed. Let us drown this project in prayer.
