Two suspects were arrested shortly after a VW Caddy was stolen from a house in Aandblom Avenue, Bergsig, in the early hours of Friday morning, 29 May.

According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie, members of the Conville police crime prevention unit were patrolling the industrial area behind Margot Swiss later that morning when they discovered five men stripping and dismantling a VW Caddy in a warehouse.

"Two of the five suspects found at the warehouse were arrested. The other three were released after their alibis were confirmed," he said.

Sabastiaan Noble (28) and Jacques Oostuizen (30), both from George, were arrested and appeared in the George Magistrate's Court on Monday 1 June, where they were charged with theft of a motor vehicle. They were scheduled to appear for the formal bail application yesterday, Wednesday 10 June. By the time of going to print the details surrounding their bail application could not be confirmed.

Further investigation by the George Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VIS) confirmed that the Caddy found was the vehicle that was stolen in Aandblom Street on 29 May.

"The possibility that this could be part of a syndicate cannot be confirmed at this stage, but is not excluded from investigation," said Pojie. Eden Cluster Commander, Maj-Gen Oswald Reddy, commended the members for their vigilance and dedication to bring these suspects to book.
