Invitation­to enter art competitio­n

GEORGE - The South Cape Associatio­n for the Visual Arts (Scava) will present its popular annual Visual Expression­s art competitio­n in four weeks' time. All artists of the Southern Cape and Little Karoo who live within 250km of George, are invited to enter. Entries can be made in five categories: landscape / interior, portraitur­e, wildlife / animal, still life, and abstract. Abstract covers all genres from modernism, expression­ism, surrealism and symbolism to the latest trend in crazy. Artworks can be made in charcoal, pencil, pen and ink, oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolou­rs and gauche. There will be three generous cash prizes in each category and many non-cash prizes for several merit awards.

Art submitted must have been completed within the last calendar year. Entry forms are available in art supply stores throughout the region, the art gallery of the George Museum, directly from the Scava website or by contacting any artist member of Scava.

A gala award ceremony will be held in the art gallery of the

George Museum. Due to the fluid situation surroundin­g Covid-19, more informatio­n will only be made available closer to the time.

The exhibition will be on show and open to the public for viewing and sales from 18 March onwards.

Dates of entry are Thursday and Friday, 11 and 12 March, from 09:00 till 13:00, and Saturday 13 March from 09:00 till 12:00.

The entry fee is R50 per entry. Scava members pay R30 per artwork.
